NSW: Five dead and a child critically injured in four crashes

Five people are dead and a child is critically injured after another horrific nighton New South Wales roads involving four separate fatal accidents.

A 13-year-old boy died after the Daewoo hatchback he was travelling in collided witha Ford sedan just after 6.00pm (AEST) in the Hunter Valley.

The accident occurred at Buchanan and Louth Park Roads, Louth Park near Maitland.

Police say a seven-year-old girl is in a critical condition with head injuries at Newcastle'sJohn Hunter Hospital.

Meanwhile, the remaining occupants, a 35-year-old woman and two girls, aged seven and11, are in a serious but stable condition.

All are from Kurri Kurri on the NSW central coast.

The occupants of the sedan, a man aged 46 and a 19-year-old woman, both from Bellbird,were taken by ambulance to Maitland Hospital with minor injuries.

In another crash at Bargo in the NSW southern highlands, two women died after theirlate model Falcon utility veered off the road and hit a tree near the intersection ofWest Parade at around 1.20am (AEST).

Police say the as yet unidentified women were aged in their late teens or early twenties.

In West Pymble in Sydney's northern suburbs, a man was killed when his BMW sedan travellingnorth along Yanko Road collided with a power pole before rebounding into a tree at around2.15am (AEST).

The man, who was the only occupant in the car, was trapped in the wreckage, but diedat the scene.

And an 88-year-old pedestrian died after she was hit by a Toyota Hilux while crossingKing Georges Road, Blakehurst, in Sydney's south-west at 3.45pm (AEST) yesterday.

Police say the woman was treated at the scene for head injuries but died at St GeorgeHospital at 7.30pm.

The fatalities follow a disastrous day on the roads yesterday with six people, includingthree pedestrians, dead in a 12-hour period.

Investigations into each of the crashes are continuing and anyone with informationshould call Crime Stoppers.
